TONY AWARDS NOMINEE TEMPTATIONS MUSICAL ‘AIN’T TOO PROUD’ GIVES BACK TO
THE FOURTH ANNUAL FLINT WATER FESTIVAL

FLINT, MI – Tony Awards nominee Temptations musical “Ain’t Too Proud” gives back to the fourth annual Flint Water Festival. Even though they will not be able to attend the festivities, there will be a special video presentation, autographed memorabilia, and a pair of show tickets for the charity auction from playwright Dominique Morisseau, the cast and producers of the twelve Tony Awards nominee, “Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations.”

The Flint Water Festival is an annual charity event dedicated to raising funds and awareness to provide safe water for communities affected by the water crisis here and abroad. The festival gives the community free water and a platform for artistic expression to improve the residents’ social and emotional development, in order to mitigate the effects of lead exposure. The event takes place on July 4, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Riverbank Park in Flint’s downtown, cultural and college life districts.  This year the festival is hosting two $1,000 competitions: Hamiltunes Flint & Charity Lip Sync Battle.

Hamiltunes, the officially licensed sing along to the soundtrack of the award-winning musical "Hamilton" is set to hit Flint. Assisting students with their educational studies, a $1,000 scholarship will be given to the best singing performance. The band sponsored by the Flint Institute of Music features Roger Jones II a seasoned jazz pianist and Flint native who has worked professionally in Japan, Europe, and Turkey.

Charity Lip Sync Battle offers a $1,000 cash prize to all ages for the most entertaining act, in order to help residents with water bills, food and shelter. Community leaders will perform for the cause including: Isaiah Oliver, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint as Chance the Rapper; Kay Smith, founder of the Flint Water Festival and graduate of Harvard University's American Repertory Theater Institute as Cardi B featuring Drippie the water mascot; and Todd Beard, Microsoft Innovative Educator Leader as Billy Ray Cyrus.

Both Hamiltunes Flint and Charity Lip Sync Battle will be hosted by Tara Wallace of VH1 “Love & Hip Hop: New York,” directed by Detroit Filmmakers Awards nominee, R. Simone, judged by Kelli Crump, associate artist of Flint Repertory Theatre and Brandon Corder of Beats x Beers, and sound by Peter McFray and Alex Kadie. The theatrical students of Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village SAVE THE DRAMA camp, the New McCree Theatre, and the Dancing Diamonds student dance team will undoubtedly excite the crowd.

The festival is also celebrating the importance of water for animals by adding a petting zoo with pony rides. Kids will receive Drippie backpacks filled with the following: ZeroWater lead-removing tumblers, tickets to the Flint Symphony Orchestra, and Flint Registry educational coloring and activity books sponsored by Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha.

RICH Kids, Inc. is a charitable organization established in Flint, MI that serves as the holding company for Drippie the water mascot, and the Flint Water Festival which embodies the core tenets of its mission: Fitness, Arts, Tech, and Education. The Internal Revenue Service recognizes RICH Kids, Inc. as a Section 501(c)(3) public charity. Gifts to RICH Kids, Inc. are tax deductible in the U.S.

WHY CARE ABOUT WATER?

There is the same amount of water on Earth today as there was when the dinosaurs roamed. And just less than one percent of the planet's water is available to meet the daily drinking water, sanitation and food needs of nearly 7 billion people and millions of other species. Acute bilateral pneumonia, aka Legionnaires’ disease, is seen on a chest X-ray.

"The waterborne bacterial infection kills 1 in 10 patients who contract it. And fighting outbreaks is a multi-front battle.

Health officials are increasingly concerned about the continuous uptick of Legionnaires’ disease cases, which have risen steadily since 2000.

While the waterborne bacterial disease is relatively rare ― with 6,238 cases nationwide so far this year ― there has been a 13.6 percent increase in cases since this time last year. That’s nearly double the increase of 7.8 percent from 2015 to 2016 in the same time period." -Lauren Weber | Huffington Post
