Legionnaires’ Disease Is Rising At An Alarming Rate In The U.S.

"The waterborne bacterial infection kills 1 in 10 patients who contract it. And fighting outbreaks is a multi-front battle.
Health officials are increasingly concerned about the continuous uptick of Legionnaires’ disease cases, which have risen steadily since 2000.
While the waterborne bacterial disease is relatively rare ― with 6,238 cases nationwide so far this year ― there has been a 13.6 percent increase in cases since this time last year. Case of Legionnaires' disease confirmed in Kansas City metro area

CLAYCOMO, MO (KCTV) - A case of Legionnaires Disease has been confirmed in the Kansas City metro area and the Clay County Public Health Center is still investigating.
Family members told KCTV5 the woman has been in a medically induced coma for two weeks and underwent surgery Tuesday at Liberty Hospital. - KCTV5.com
Disneyland cooling towers shut down after cases of Legionnaires' disease

Disneyland last week shut down two water-cooling towers after some visitors to the Anaheim, Calif., theme park contracted Legionnaires’ disease.
