FLINT WATER FESTIVAL
A FUNDRAISING PROGRAM TO PROVIDE SAFE WATER
The Flint Water Festival is an inaugural charity event dedicated to raising funds for water-related resources for the residents of Flint, MI, and providing enrichment services to the youth on July 1-2, 2016. It will feature entertainment, activities, and educational presentations in Flint’s downtown, cultural and college life districts. Events are free admission and include free food in addition to giving away cash prizes.
RICH Kids, Inc. is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to providing education and entertainment programs for youth in an effort to counter the adverse health and social effects of the ongoing water crisis. The organization serves as the holding company for the Flint Water Challenge #Hydrate4FlintSake and the Flint Water Festival, which embodies the core tenets of its mission: Fitness, Arts, Music, and Education.
In January 2016, two years after Flint switched their water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River in an effort to save money, President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency. Nearly 100,000 residents, including 12,000 infants and toddlers had been exposed to lead contaminated water—spreading panic throughout the city and sending shockwaves of disbelief across the nation. Four months later Obama came to Flint, sipped the water and deemed it undrinkable for pregnant women and kids under age 6.
FEMA stepped in to provide water, filters, and lead test kits; however, the assistance ends on August 14, 2016.
In response to these trying circumstances, the FLINT WATER FESTIVAL
has been inaugurated to address the immediate need of a continuous, reliable source of water, filters, and lead testing kits.
